(mostly) short poems on life and love

by a window, waiting

April 22, 2017 by Michael Guerin

by a window —
she waits.
the sky slowly bleeds
from wine
to blackest ink.
lit by the cool
incandescent glow
of her phone —
she waits.
the city skyline
sparks to life
as apartment lights
flicker like
a swarm of fireflies
on a warm summer’s night.
she turns
from the screen
and unfurls her thick
raven hair
which splashes on bare
pearl-white shoulders,
and with a long deep
sigh for another
sleepless night
she waits.
