(mostly) short poems on life and love

if given the chance

April 9, 2017 by Michael Guerin

if it was sunny
i’d loiter on the front
porch dressed only in
darkness as breezes
set birch leaves aquiver
while a slowly setting
sun cast long shadows
stretching to the east.

if given the chance
i’d linger a moment
standing in cold rain
happy and oblivious
like birds on the lawn
pecking at something
i can’t possibly imagine
just beneath their beaks.
