(mostly) short poems on life and love

hand and stone

March 13, 2018 by Michael Guerin

if i were to throw
some stone into a little
known pond would those ripples
propagate outward anyway
even if no one was there to see?
we like to believe
in stark individuality
yet we are both hand
and stone, pond and wave
beating our way
through these swirling tides
of life and change
ripple upon ripple,
even though it feels
most days
that we’re truly
on our
own.
