(mostly) short poems on life and love

it passes you by

August 25, 2018 by Michael Guerin

beneath wrought iron lamps
the red brick street glistens
from a cool drizzle.

with each passing step
my warm and familiar
bar stool

slowly recedes
into a yellowed past
i can no longer imagine.

somewhere up ahead
her black front door
stands secured
against all strangers

and neatly hung
with a brass number plate
i was never given
to answer.
