sunflowers (i)

June 7, 2019 by Michael Guerin

the setting sun peeks
beneath a line of clouds
and casts long shadows
over peopled fields of sunflowers
standing ram-rod straight
stretching out to horizon’s edge
in row upon row upon row
their thick stalks
bearing the weight
of heavy heads bowed low
with seed as they
patiently wait
to release their load.
