gravity

October 31, 2020 by Michael Guerin

a study of stones,
their rough and tumbled
surfaces pockmarked
black and gray
as they
glisten in the sun.

i have no idea
how many years had to pass
in order to erode
those jagged edges
smooth.

but i can feel their weight
as her steady hand
stacks them one by one,
like a child
playing with blocks

yet patiently, until held
by counterpoise
their delicate balance
contradicts everything i know
about gravity.
