recurrence

April 17, 2021 by Michael Guerin

night disrobes before me,
layer by layer. shade by shade.
through drawn curtains
she draws me deeper
into an abyss
until darkness swallows
me whole
once again.

through death’s doorway
i catch a glimpse
of some promised future
barely up ahead.
and whispered on the breath
which parts my curtains,
a single word spoken…
“remember.”
