(mostly) short poems on life and love

almost heaven

August 13, 2021 by Michael Guerin

a line of brightly colored
adirondack chairs
face the sea.
vacant, they appear gray
in pale moonlight.
far out over the gulf
a thick blanket of clouds
hover low over horizon’s edge.
intermittent flashes of sky lightning
reflect off the softly rippled
waves gently rolling in.

all is quiet.
on nights like these
when tourists have returned home
and the sea is all your own
and cool breezes kiss
your skin it almost
feels like heaven.
almost.
