(mostly) short poems on life and love

not yet

October 28, 2021 by Michael Guerin

“not yet,”
she whispered in my ear.
night swallowed us whole
in an upstairs bedroom
while moonlight played hide and seek
with our flesh.
her pale hand grabbed
the back of my head and pulled
me close until our lips
awkwardly landed.
she tasted like strawberries
as i inhaled
her breath.

“not yet…”
she sighed into a sultry
summer night dripping
with desperation, desire
and sweat.
it seemed like the sands
of time slowed while i fumbled
with her buttons, one
by one, until her blouse
fell open.
then she carried me home
borne on the shallow waves
of bated breath.
