(mostly) short poems on life and love

late december

January 8, 2022 by Michael Guerin

my driveway is half-shoveled.
above me stars peek through gaps
in the clouds.

it’s late. while neighbors sleep
i clear away snow from the day’s
winter storm.

pausing to catch my breath,
night sneaks up close and whispers
in my ear —

from her rustled sigh
an ice-cold shiver shudders
down my spine.
