Twilight on Flagler Beach

April 5, 2022 by Michael Guerin

A growling high tide
crashes relentlessly
against the old pier’s
weathered pilings.

Behind me a line of cars
with headlights on
inch single-file
along the narrow street.

The rippled expanse
of coarse, pink sand
feels cool under
bare feet.

Even gulls have found
better places to roost
as another day
slips into night.
