(mostly) short poems on life and love

In Waves (ii)

June 20, 2022 by Michael Guerin

Waves of heavy rain
splatter against the window.

Low rumbles
of distant thunder
rattle my shuttered room.

A dusty ceiling fan
bathes my naked body
in waves
of humid air.

On the radio
the scratchy notes
of Master Lotfi’s tar
drag me back
to a time before counting.

Eyes closed,
I’m once again beneath
an ink-black sky
and crescent moon.

A campfire spits
and crackles as my beloved
dances on the sand.

Waves of heavy rain
have long since passed.

Mohammad-Reza Lotfi was an Iranian classical musician renowned for his mastery of the tar and setar. He passed away on May 2nd, 2014. This humble poem is dedicated to his memory.
