no candle fitfully flames
on my antique dresser. cloaked
in darkness, i kneel by an open window
and watch a myriad of stars playing
hide and seek as clouds slowly skate
across an ink-stained sky.
it’s long past midnight
and my knees have begun to ache.
patiently, i’ve waited for this moment.
