there was a time
when you could set your watch
to the 5:57 amtrak
as it rumbled through
the only crossing
in town.
but that was before the line
shut down
from budget cuts
ten years ago. and now
half of main street
is boarded up
while a derelict railway car
sits abandoned
on slowly rusting tracks
that reach
like broken fingers
to the empty horizon.
