(mostly) short poems on life and love

A Triptych on Grief

August 5, 2018 by Michael Guerin

I recently completed three poems about death and grief inspired, in large part, to a recent viewing of the movie Bright Star — and in particular this near final scene…

Those three poems (in order) are…

  1. the tolling bell
  2. the colors that i seek
  3. it comes like ice

To love and (therefore) grieve is human, perhaps our most human of emotional experiences. I hope you feel moved by one (or all) of these humble poems.

NOTE: after three hours after posting this, I received the news of my Aunt Pauline and Uncle Roger’s death. And looking back, how amazing that the echoes of their death should reach me ahead of time, allowing me the opportunity to pen three poems about grief.
